A deep ruby red, the wine presents classic notes ofred berries, balsamic and earth that are nicely farmed by medium-firm tannins and juicy acidity.

Valerio Vini is the oldest continuously run winery in Molise, Italy. The founder, Prince Giovanni Pignatelli built the cellar in Monteroduni and planted vineyards in 1972. Antonio Valerio bought the property in 2004 and embarked on a long-term restoration project, beginning with the vineyards. The estate is planted with Sangiovese, Montepulciano and an indigenous varietal, Tintilia. Antonio has retained the help of renowned wine consultant, Dr. Riccardo Catarella and along with the recent DOC Pentro designation, this winery and region is poised for growth.

DOC-Pentro, a registered designation of origin from the province of Isernia, contains in its disciplinary the features of the classical italian blends. Pressed from the Sangiovese and Montepulciano grapes and, recently introducted by the disciplinary proceeding, also from Tintilia grape, the Pentro is a limited productioin of 10,000 bottles.
The vinification takes place after 24 months in barrique barrels for malolactic fermentation and then 12 months refinement in bottle. The Pentro expresses the strength of a modern wine quality in a territory that best suited for it.
This excellent red wine is the result of a permanent research and engagement, and it takes the significance of the history, traditions and expertise of an ancient population with it, the Pentri, who, as this wine itself, shaped the strong identity of this country, which remains still largely undiscovered.
Though young but of a glorious past, this DOC Pentro, has already been captured on its debut by the attention of the best wine Guides and also of renowned audience, not only because it bears the name of the country of origin, but also because it communicated its true special features and uniqueness. Filled in bottles for the first time late in 2007, it means more than twenty years after the first approval of the DOC designation, actually it has become a real cult and contributes more and more for the reputation of this amazing Italian wine region.
(55% Montepulciano/45% Sangiovese) Fruit from 30+ year old vines planted on medium textured, calcareous stony soils was vinified in stainless steel. Malo and aging occurred in new French oak barrels for 24 months.
The balance between traditions, research and application of advanced techniques make the Valerio winery a sort of factory motivated by the continues proposal of sophisticated technologies that donít interfere with the knowledge of the terroir and the desire to recuperate the native vines. The company was born in 2004 with a young story, in reality enhances an old heart that ties up to the original company established in 1972 in the vines of Prince Giovanni Pignatelli, a family name since the XVII century in Monteroduni. The attention given to the old vines and to the territory, that time ago it had enjoyed the fame of the vines and its wines, it becomes the stimulus that animates the Valerioís family first and then Antonio Valerio who will generate the recovery of the area of Macchia DíIsernia and the production of the wines which already represent an act of recognition by their names.
