Wine Advocate 89 points - The 2008 Altos de Losada, is produced exclusively from Mencia grapes from their own vineyards. As the grapes are intermixed in the old vineyards, they only pick the Mencia grapes from each plot, where the soils are pure clay. It has a reticent nose, and needs time in the glass or in the decanter to start opening up. It shows some incipient complexity in the nose, with straw and hay notes, forest floor and some plums, all of it framed and spiced up by the aging in wood. Mineral and powerful, it gravitates towards a dry finish. Give it a little bit more time. Drink 2014-2019. (Aug 2013)
It originated in 21 small pieces of old vineyard Mencia. Recovered by Losada Vineyards have been cultivated and processed separately. The meeting between clays origin and its 15 months of aging in French oak barrels, a wine configured earthy, vivacious, carnal, and deeply captivating.

From the beginning, our viticulture follows a different path than usual in Bierzo. Instead of looking outstanding slate vineyards, we focus on recovering old vineyards of Mencia, which were almost abandoned for being in clay areas.
Work on the tiny plots aims to balance the vineyard with its natural ecosystem. So take advantage of the characteristics of the soil, to offer wines with elegance and purity as main features.
