Chardonnay started its brilliant, worldly reputation in France. It's the varietal soloist in the most exquisite white burgundies, as well as the source of the crisp, acidic structure ("back bone") of the world’s finest Champagnes - most notably, Blanc de Blancs. We believe as Chardonnay travels the world, vineyard yields are pushed and heavy oak aging and malolactic fermentation go way too far in masking the natural beauty of this expressive, thin-skinned varietal. Chardonnay loses its natural typicity, its sense of terroir, its elegant finesse and food compatibility. Call us a bit "old school," but Acordeon Chardonnay's fresh, zesty aromas and crisp, brightly played flavor melodies are more delineated because of our ascendant estate vineyard. Controlled yields, shallow sandy soils, and winemaker restraint inside the winery all play a part, too.
