Believing that this was an ideal site, he purchasedland, and is now producing a beautiful, round wine with floral and stone fruit components, structure, and richness that show why this area is gaining more and more attention.
Telmo Rodriguez is considered one of Spain’s most talented and prolific winemakers who champions the revival of native varietals and underappreciated regions with superior terroir. He studied viticulture and oenology at the University of Bordeaux and was the winemaker at Remelluri, his family winery in Rioja, before setting off on his own in 1990. His focus is in the vineyard where he farms biodynamically, has revived the cultivation of bush vines and replants exclusively with massale selections. Telmo is also a remarkably democratic winemaker who is as proud of his everyday wines as he is of his rare and limited bottlings.
|In 2004 Telmo decided to start a new project in Valdeorras – a little known area of Galicia. The purpose was to create a very serious white wine from the region’s native Godello grape. He found an area with Roman terraces, an unbelievably wild, remote and steep slope that bank into the Sil River.
