Aromas of dark, juicy mulberries, ripe blackcurrants and French vanilla beans. Firm, fruit-driven tannins lend structure and length.
In 2005, Domaine Michel Laroche acquired L’Avenir Wine Estate. Located in Stellenbosch, South Africa, L’Avenir is a 158 acre estate with 72 acres planted to vine. The L’Avenir vineyards have a significant number of Pinotage and Chenin Blanc old vines which produce low yields of phenolically ripe grapes. Over the last decade, Domaine Laroche has made a marked commitment to find terroirs of distinction outside of France.
|Eight parcels of Pinotage are planted to clay with shale topsoil. The handpicked and destemmed grapes were cold soaked for two days and fermented on their skins in large and small stainless steel tanks. The wine was aged for 12 months in 225 liter French oak barrels; one-third new, one-third 2-year-old, and one-third 3-year-old barrels.
