Founded in 2005 by Douglas and Ana Lucia Benitez-Stewart, Breggo Cellars specializes in vineyard designate Pinot Noir and Alsatian-style aromatic white wines from Mendocino County. They craft small lots of wine from Anderson Valley’s most critically acclaimed vineyards, including Savoy, Ferrington, and Donnelly Creek. Cliff Lede, the owner of his eponymous winery, purchased Breggo in 2009. Savoy Vineyard, a benchmark Anderson Valley vineyard was acquired in 2011. Spread over 44 acres, the vineyard is made up of 34 sub-blocks planted to a diverse blend of Dijon and Heritage clones of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Winemaker Ryan Hodgins has been with Breggo from its inception. He graduated UC Davis with a Master’s degree in Viticulture and Enology. After finishing his degree, Ryan worked at Hanzell Vineyards as the assistant winemaker and viticulturist. About the name, Breggo means sheep in Boontling, the folk language created in Anderson Valley a hundred years ago.
