Domaine de Gournier is owned by Maurice Barnouin. Located on the western side of the Rhone River, this large estate has grown to 200 hectares. The Sauvignon Blanc vines comprise only 20 hectares of the domaine and are planted in three special vineyard sites: Bourdic, Gournier, and Lys.
Each location, or terroir, is a little different and adds to the blend. Bourdic, at a slightly higher elevation and cooler temperatures, provides great acidity. The Gournier and Lys vineyards, planted to a south-eastern exposure that allows extended hang-time, provide the richness that comes from the skins to attain their full ripening potential. Hand-harvested, this wine’s expressive aromas come from eight hours of skin contact before fermentation in stainless steel. The result is an intensely flavored and rich Sauvignon Blanc, with bright tropical fruits in the nose and a well-balanced palate.

This beautiful estate, owned by Maurice Barnouin, is located in the hills northwest of Nimes, in the western Rhone Valley near the town of Uzes and the famous Pont du Gard.
The viticultural area lies just outside the Costieres de Nimes appellation and is only entitled to label its wines as Vin de Pays des Cevennes. The wines of Domaine de Gournier however, aspire to greater stature than this simple designation. Being up in the hills, the microclimate is cool.
The Barnouin family were pepinierists by trade (vine rootstock and clone experts), and Maurice’s father was a pioneer in the regions re-planting with low-yielding, intensely flavored varietals like Chardonnay, Sauvignon and Merlot.
