The Etude XO Alambic Brandy offers layered aromas of rose, dried fruit, and orange zest. The palate is elegant and lively with inviting flavors of fig, clove and caramel. The finish is long and seductive with spice notes.
Wine Enthusiast 94 points - From Etude Wines comes this rich, highly aromatic wine lover’s brandy. Made with a blend of brandies aged on average over 20 years in French oak casks, look for Sherry-like dried fruit and honey flavors, finishing with a lingering and lightly boozy caramel note. Sipping brandy. - K.N. (Nov 2011)
Originally, the historic Carneros property that is now home to the Etude winery was, for many years, a well-known brandy distillery. When Etude bought the property in 2002, it also purchased a small number of the best fine oak casks filled with aging brandy. This incredibly high quality brandy slumbered quietly in oak casks, gracefully developing layers of complexity.
At Etude, this is viewed as buried treasure. Winemaker Jon Priest began the process of selecting the very best lots and creating a blend that is decidedly Californian in character yet has the texture, density and length that are the trademarks of a world-class brandy.
This XO brandy was processed in traditional alambic pot stills and hand-distilled two times. The brandy has been aging in the finest French oak casks on average 20 years, giving it richness and balance. Etude Winemaker Jon Priest selected the very best lots to blend, bottle and release. This brandy is handcrafted from a blend of Pinot Noir, French Colombard, Chenin Blanc, Palomino, Chardonnay, Ugni Blanc, Muscat and Folle Blanche grapes.
